In our archives sit sketches attributed to Charles Wilkes who was responsible for new shape design at Burgess and Leigh. He started in the design studio at Burgess & Leigh in 1889 and worked with us until he retired in 1943.

He was a highly skilled modeller and prolific shape designer, producing hundreds of beautiful sketches all conveying an almost poetic knowledge of form. We have drawn on these elements of form to produce a new decoration that honours all the modellers who worked to make Burleigh ware so special.
